Shutting Down Atlanta or Snowmagedon 2014

Yep, its snowing outside. Atlanta does not do snow. So all of the bread, milk and beer are now gone from the grocery store shelves. The roads are packed with folks who not only don't know how to drive in wintery conditions but are just plain crazy to boot. This pretty much shuts down my shot at getting a game in this evening at Gigabytes which has me terribly depressed. Oh well. Maybe next week.

But there is some good news to report! The US Postal Service has kept to their pledge and the snow has not daunted them from their appointed rounds. Brookhurst came through and arriving on my desk today is a brand new figurehead for my Viking Longship!

I guess I know what I will be working on tonight. Stay warm out there.

  2. Inspiration for a Napoleonic French retreat game from Russia in 1812 and why I put bags of sand in my van and other winter supplies - talk about command and control failures when you get a mass exodus on the roads of Atlanta at the same time. Just be glad your not stuck on the roads like so many other hopeless people. Staying warm is indeed good advice! So what disaster film will they use this footage for?

    1. Good question. There is some good footage being taken. Might even make its way into a Walking dead episode in the winter with all of the abandoned cars.

  3. Sounds like a scene from The Walking Dead, only with snow instead of zombies. I hear there is a bit of a tourist industry in Georgia of folks visiting locations using in the filming of TWD. Beats me why. Driving and thriving in winter requires equipment, experience, warm clothes, snowtires, etc, none of which, I suspect, Atlantans have much of. Stay safe and be warm. Looking forward to seeing your longship complete.

    1. Atlanta is far better prepared this year than the past two bad storms we have had. We more than tripled the number of salt trucks and snow plows for the state but it still can't even cover what is needed. This was far milder than 2011 which brought lots of ice that took out power lines. Took my mother in law over 15 hours to make it home from work. She bailed out early at noon. Most Atlantans look at I-285 as a giant nascar loop and that does not mix well with winter.
